Did you know that to put chairs and tables on the highway requires a licence?

Local councils are responsible for the management of this issue and must ensure that highway furniture does not cause an  obstruction or present a danger to pedestrians, particularly those who are disabled, partially sighted or are pushchair/wheelchair users.

Councils acknowledge that well designed, well planned and properly managed installations, in the right place could add value to the business usage, particularly in promoting the café culture.

To this end, councils tend to look favourably on applications by operators and businesses, in places where there is enough room to put tables and chairs on the pavement outside their premises, particularly those with A3 usage or other appropriate licences.

Many councils including Southend–on-sea have policies to govern what is allowed. Contact us now for more details
